I remember seeing this Lamborghini Countach phone years ago in the shops over here, and I also remember it was rather expensive, so when I found an eBay listing with a very low starting price I put in a bid ... just for fun ... and behold, nobody else made a bid and I won this amazing, by now classic Countach phone for a very nice price.
Now don't expect too much from this model, it is rather crudely made, and actually is a collection of different Countach models. It says Quattrovalvole at the rear, but the engine cover is from the S series, while the roof comes from the classic LP400 periscopa ... yes, there is a tunnel in the roof of this car. But the side sills are from the 88 1/2 Quattrovalvole model while the wheels are a strange mix of the original curved Campagnolo wheels, but they look multi-piece and have the five spokes seen on the 25th Anniversary edition.
So it looks like a Countach ... with an identity crisis, but who cares, this is pure nostalgia for me, I had the box in my hands many times years ago, but never actually bought it ... and now one surfaced again, and became mine for much less than it's original price.
Now this is pure fun, I wouldn't call it a toy ... but it's not a diecast either ... it's a phone, and what's more ... when you get a call the Lamborghini goes 'vroem, vroem', the lights come on and it tilts open to reveal a handset. One of those classic, large black handsets with the keys on the back ... Eighties here I come again.
I don't know if this is a collector's item by now, but I do know it doesn't come on the market regularly, and best of all it still works today, tried it on my landline and it still functions completely, how's that for a 25 year old item.
Now I'm not going to use it as a phone, I like it too much for that, so it is nicely put on display in one of my cabinets, drawing attention due to it's large size ... and when I press the 'test' button in front of any guests they are in awe about the sound and light it makes ... so much fun.
