March 2015, the Geneva Motor Show press days ... Stephan Winkelmann, CEO and Director of Automobili Lamborghini SpA proudly unveils the new V12 flagship model from Sant'Agata .... the Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce, or the SV version. A limited edition supercar with only 600 units in closed coupe form and 500 units as the open-top Roadster model ... when the black satin cover comes off at Geneva a bright yellow metallic Superveloce is shown ... New Giallo Orion is the paint called and it looks amazing.

But Lamborghini played a trick on people who visited the 2015 Geneva Motor Show ... during the public days this amazing pearl metallic yellow Aventador Superveloce was nowhere in sight anymore, it was replaced with a 'glittered red' one ... a brand new paint developed specifically for the Superveloce called Rosso Bia (Blu Sideris was another special paint for the SV) ... and one more important detail appeared on this red V12 ... a small SV script on the lower side panel just in front of the rear wheel.

The official press kit for the Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 also featured this exact Rosso Bia model, so why did they show a yellow one during the press days? I don't know, but it did mean I wanted to have a model of the New Giallo Orion one too, as the show car, even if it was shown just two days ... and to be honest, I rather like a yellow Superveloce, sure the Rosso Bia looks amazing, but yellow isn't too bad either.

In September 2016 Kyosho came out with a very nice 1/18 scale model of the Aventador Superveloce finished in Rosso Bia, it had a few flaws, but for the price it sure was a nice model ... and even with the minor flaws it was a way to have a Superveloce in your collection apart from the overpriced MR versions ... but all hopes were set on AUTOart ... which let's face it, always comes up with the best finished 1/18 Lamborghini models available in their price segment.

The announcement was made, and a list of shades was published ... all hell broke loose ... no Rosso Bia from AUTOart, and the New Giallo Orion one would come without SV logo on the side ... a Lamborghini Superveloce with no SV decal on the side ... again a reason for the online forum to go into overdrive ... but it all made sense ... let me explain:

Most collectors already bought either the expensive MR or the cheaper Kyosho 1/18 model of the Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce in Rosso Bia, sure these aren't diecast models and nothing opens ... but the shade is available if you really want it, so AUTOart didn't see a reason why to produce the same shade again (instead they opted for the stunning Blu Lemans and Grigio Titans for instance ... amazing shades by the way).

So what about the New Giallo Orion without SV logo ... on some shades, AUTOart puts the small SV on the side while others (like the metallic white) come with the larger SV above the rear wheel ... the answer is simple ... check out the photos of the yellow Superveloce at the Geneva show ... it doesn't have an SV on the side either! In fact, the SV decal, either the small one or the large one, is an option on the real car ... you don't have to choose one of them ...

Exterior:

So AUTOart created a perfect replica of the press day Geneva Motor Show Aventador Superveloce, finished in a deep shining pearl yellow metallic shade that looks absolutely gorgeous on this 1/18 scale model, the glossy black Dianthus wheels come with black center locks and cover black brake calipers ... all exactly as seen on this show car, some might prefer yellow calipers and perhaps even yellow locks ... but you can only order black or red center locks, and yellow brake calipers just aren't seen on the car unveiled in Switzerland.

The show car came with matte black front bumper, side sills, rear view mirrors and lower part of the rear diffuser ... this AUTOart model is exactly the same, combined with a satin finished carbon fiber on the fixed air scoops, rear diffuser, side intake fin and rear wing ... also note the fins on the engine cover are carbon fiber while the surround itself is matte black ... just perfect.

As we should expect, just about all the grilles on this AUTOart model are open, and you can see through them onto the radiators and struts behind them, a very nice touch on this scale model, at the rear we also get the four centrally mounted exhaust tips from the Aventador Superveloce ... once again very nicely replicated in 1/18 scale.

So the exterior is really, really nicely done by AUTOart, I would say they managed to create a very nice model to add to our collection, the shelve presence is just top notch with this model, the paint and finish is amazing, and despite what I've heard from other collectors, on mine the front hood and engine cover do close as perfect as it gets.

Interior

But did AUTOart manage to get the interior on this model as perfect as the exterior ... well, to be honest they did miss a few small details on the inside ...

The Aventador Superveloce comes with a pair of lightweight, carbon fiber seats with that typical 'Y' shape on the back and lower seat ... usually color coordinated with the exterior shade ... in case of this New Giallo Orion the interior in the Geneva show car was done in Nero Cosmos with Giallo Taurus contrast ... and inside the AUTOart model this combination is also used, looking great.

So we see the large yellow 'Y' on the seatback and lower section, a nice yellow Raging Bull crest on the headrest and the SV sign on the side of the seats (which do come in carbon fiber inside this model too by the way) we also get the yellow straps on the carbon fiber door panels to pull down, a yellow SV on the sides of the central console and the small yellow ring on the center of the steering wheel ... but that's it ... there is something missing.

On the show car, there is yellow stitching and piping on the seats, central console, on top of the dashboard pod, on the dashboard itself and in fact also on the headliner ... none of these are to be found inside the AUTOart model ... now that might be some serious nitpicking on my part, but AUTOart managed to get this stitching on the dashboard of their Aventador LP700-4 and Aventador LP720-4, so why not add the piping on this new model too?

Other than that the interior inside this Aventador Superveloce by AUTOart is as good as it gets, even the small '1 di 600' plaque is present under the small window behind the driver and on the central console they put that stylish SV script, which is correct, don't get me wrong ... and inside the Rosso Bia press release car that is exactly how the central console looks ... but on the Geneva Motor Show press days, yellow car Lamborghini had the optional Navigation and Infotainment system installed ... and in that case, this SV is omitted in favor of the turn dial needed to control the system ... now that's a minor flaw, and to be honest I do prefer seeing the SV here.

Engine bay

We all know those V12 engines in AUTOart Lamborghini models are very nicely finished, and this new Aventador Superveloce is no different, the engine looks great, with the Aventador's special race inspired suspension showing the springs ... in this case finished in black, just like on the actual show car, and the engine surround in matte black ... also exactly as seen on real life ... and what really impressed me, the X brace over the engine is finished in carbon fiber ... which is also seen on the real car, I really love that attention to detail inside the engine bay of this 1/18 AUTOart Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce.

Up front the hood opens to show a velvet covered luggage compartment, it's all there, it is correct, all the details look the way they should ... once again AUTOart didn't disappoint here.

Bottom line

The overall look and feel of this new 1/18 scale Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce model from AUTOart is spot on, the stance is right, the car looks every bit as menacing as she does in real life and that New Giallo Orion paint is applied perfectly ... a very nice sparkle from the metallic in the paint and a deep shine, combined with the matte black and satin carbon fiber parts this model just pops on the shelve.

So there is no SV decal on the side of this specific shade ... for me, this is perfect, as I love having the exact same show car in my collection, other have complained about this ... that's their choice, if you really want to have a large SV decal on the side of this yellow Superveloce you can always get them from eBay and apply them yourself, I have done it to the white Kyosho Aventador Superveloce, it isn't that hard to do.

But let's address the most common remark made about this (and other) new AUTOart 1/18 scale models ... they are made from plastic instead of metal these days ... and to many that is a very, very bad thing ... but let's put it in perspective a little.

The chassis of these AUTOart is still made from metal, only the body and various other parts are made from plastic now ... to cut down on costs and to get better, finer details we've been told ... and just take a very close look at this Aventador model ... heck, put it next to one of the previous AUTOart Aventador models (I have several of them by the way) ... and take one step backward ... do you see a difference?

The lines on this new, plastic Aventador are ever so slightly more pronounced than on the earlier, metal ones, admit it, this one looks just that little bit 'on edge' ... the fine details are amazing, the paint particles are stunning, the carbon fiber looks great ... and on my model the doors, hood and engine cover do open and close just as good as on any of the earlier, metal Aventador.

Sure you have to be careful opening this model, but that's the same way I felt with those tiny struts on the front hood and engine cover of the 'metal' Aventador by AUTOart ... it all looks so fragile, but that's because it replicates the real car ... which also has those intricate mechanisms ... for me AUTOart tries to make their models look as close to the real car as possible, and that happens to work better in 'plastic' it seems.

And let's be honest ... these aren't toys, you don't open and close the hood, the engine cover and the doors every day, not even every week ... in my case I display my models usually closed anyway ... if I have more than one model of the same range I will have one of them with open doors, even an open engine cover ... but those stay open then ... so I don't see the problem here.

I'm just going to say one more thing about these being plastic ... didn't we all, at one point build those nifty model kits from makes like Fujimi, Tamiya and Italeri ... those 1/24 or 1/16 model kits from Fujimi in their Enthusiast series ... with highly detailed engines ... those were plastic too remember, and we were happy to be able to put these together, spending weeks on them to look good ... did you open and close the doors and engine cover on these self-built models regularly? I sure didn't ... so why complain about this on these amazingly detailed AUTOart models?

Conclusion

I for one am very happy with this AUTOart Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce model, it is a serious step up from the sealed Kyosho model, the paint and finish are just about perfect, and it opens up ... what more could you ask for?

A lower price perhaps ... well, it's a hobby, and an expensive one too ... just look at MR, they are about twice the price, and nothing opens ... and let's be honest about this ... usually the AUTOart model looks at least as good, if not better than the MR one does.
