Back in August 2014 Automobili Lamborghini SpA released a few teasers of what would become the next generation race car from Sant'Agata ... the Lamborghini Huracán LP620-2 Super Trofeo that would compete in the three Blancpain Super Trofeo series in Europe, North America, and Asia.

This car would replace the Gallardo Super Trofeo in the 2015 season for most teams, some could still run the older V10 car however. If you take a close look at the designation LP620-2 you will notice a power increase of 10hp over the street version LP610-4 but also the -2 specifying rear wheel drive only ... created to make the evolution from Super Trofeo to GT racing easier on the drivers.

The Huracán Super Trofeo was developed by Lamborghini's in-house racing department, Squadra Corse together with none other than Dallara Engineering ... owned by Giampaolo Dallara who was at Lamborghini back in 1963 and worked on the Miura later on ... a serious heritage went into developing the Huracán Super Trofeo race car.

The Lamborghini Huracán LP620-2 Super Trofeo might look like a wider version of the road-going Huracán LP610-4 but other than the V10, direct injection engine there are no similar parts between the two, the Super Trofeo race car was created from scratch for the track ... a racing concept turned into reality.

The Huracá, LP620-2 Super Trofeo made her debut at The Quail in the United States, finished in a stunning matte grey metallic paint called Grigio Titans and proudly showing the #63 ... a tribute to 1963 when Automobili Lamborghini was founded ... the show car came with black opaque windows to make her look even more menacing and massive aerodynamic add-ons bespoke for this race car.

When Looksmart released a 1/18 sealed scale car of the impressive Huracán Super Trofeo I was naturally interested in adding one of these to my collection ... but at €269 I had other priorities in scale models ... and almost forgot about this model.

Recently I saw one of these models listed for sale, it was the B version from Looksmart ... with transparent windows, the LS18-02AA came with the black windows, but I prefer to be able to see the interior, so I wanted to add the LS18-02AB anyway ... prices had dropped a little, but usually this model was still listed at €219 or higher, still more than I was willing to part with ... until I found one listed as an auction in the United States.

Now you know I don't buy models from outside of Europe very often anymore, import taxes are high and most of the time ruin the deal anyway ... but this time the winning bid was low enough to take the risk of shipping from the US to Belgium.

So is this Looksmart 1/18 sealed model worth the price? I still think €269 is a lot of money for this model, nothing opens (but that doesn't bother me too much to be honest, you know this when you agree to buy these models, just like with MR models) ... I would say about €150 to €200 would be more appropriate for these Looksmart, they aren't perfect ... but what model is?

Looksmart did pay attention to details when they created the Huracán Super Trofeo, the sponsor decals are correct, and they are all there just like on the presentation model ... even the 'instinctive technology' is proudly shown ... but there is one error Looksmart made.

Take a look at the white line running from the air intake behind the side windows to the front ... on the real car this line stops on the front sill, on the Looksmart model it continues onto the air vents on the front fender ... a minor detail, but an error anyway.

There is one other detail that drew my attention, take a look at the rear ... on the real car the section with the exhaust pipes and on the lower rear diffuser you can actually see through and admire parts of the engine and suspension ... Looksmart completely blocked that, there is just a black painted flat in the rear diffuser, which is a pity on a €269 model.

In the end I'm really happy with this addition to my collection, I love the aggressive look of the Lamborghini Huracán LP620-2 Super Trofeo race car, and as far as I know Looksmart is the only one offering a 1/18 scale model ... but I would be less happy if I had to pay full price for it.
