The Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster was the ultimate flagship made at Sant'Agata from 2004 on, sure we could admire a very nice Concept at the 2003 Detroit show, but the production version took a little longer to arrive ... and by that time people was standing in line to get an order in for this magnificent looking car.
Sure there was a bit of confusion about the roof, it was simply a canvas pulled over a tube frame, nothing automatic or tight fitting … top speed on the real car was ‘advised' at only 180 Km/h … but that didn't keep customers from enjoying one of the most beautiful cars ever to be built at Sant'Agata.
Together with the Murciélago Roadster, Lamborghini introduced new wheels, standard on this model and an option on the Coupé version … however apparently Maisto didn't get correct photo of this open top Bull, this installed the old wheels on their 1/18 Roadster scale model, however later on they released another black Murciélago Roadster with the correct wheels. This latter one also featured a two tone interior and e-Gear, so it was in fact totally different from the initial release.
Years later Maisto released another shade on the Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster edition, a very nice purple metallic shade over a light tan interior … but they went back to their initial look, using the old wheels and a normal gearbox.
But that wasn't the only mistake they made, take a close look at the seats, especially the seatbelts … on the Murciélago Roadster the seatbelts are fixed in the middle … however the connection are also mounted in the middle on the Maisto Roadster, while they should be on the outside of the seats, next to the side sills.
However, I didn't really mind, I managed to buy this specific model for only €15, second hand naturally, and without the original box, but that wasn't an issue for me either … by the time you are reading this review I have taken it apart completely as I needed some donor parts from it for a project I'm working on …
