You know I have a close relationship with Reiter Engineering GmbH in Germany, so every time I see a racing prepared Lamborghini as a scale car I just have to add it to my collection, this 1/43 scale model of the 2007 Fia GT Championship edition of the Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT just had to be added naturally.
I found it for sale from a seller in France, put in a bid and won it for €23 … only to find out later on these models are apparently part of some series of magazines sold in France … for about €16, so I overpaid it quite a bit … let's chalk it up to me being too impatient to wait a day or two and check if other sellers list it online ... which they did ... but at a buy now price of €25 !
If I understood the auction correctly this is an Altaya model … and as far as I'm aware this is the low budget version of IXO models, and if you take a close look at this specific model I'm inclined to agree with this.
Sure this 1/43 model is nicely detailed, and it really looks like the real car, which I happened to have photographed during the 2007 edition of the famous 24 hours race at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium, so I can compare the model to the real car in fact.
As said, all the small details that put the R-GT on a different level compared to the regular Murcielago 6.2 it was based on are present on this scale model, the side window have a sliding look alike section, the wheels are correct OZ rims, at the rear we have louvers where the street car would have the license plate. The large rear wing sits on correct struts, there is a large lower diffuser mounted, the grilles on top of the front wheels are there, as is the air intake on the front hood … and on the roof.
So I'm rather happy with this addition, a nice 1/43 scale model of the Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT, certainly not at Looksmart level, but for its price a sure bargain … if you buy it at the normal price and don't get pulled into paying too much for it like I did in all my enthusiasm.
