Remember the controversy of Liberty Walk in 2018 when Kato-san revealed a slammed-down, widebody Lamborghini Miura LB-Works at the Tokyo Auto Salon? And that was based on a replica chassis, not even a real car.
But things got even uglier a few years later when Liberty Walk showcased a Ferrari F40 widebody at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon, how dare they touch an icon like the F40 from Maranello ... well, it seems Kato-san does what he wants, as for the 2024 edition of the famous car show in Japan, he added his magic touch to the Lamborghini Countach.
And no, we aren't talking about a replica or a kit car, this white Lamborghini Countach LB-Works is based upon a genuine Raging Bull, albeit the 25th Anniversary edition, the final iteration of this V12 flagship, and probably the least valuable of them all, but we're still talking about hundreds of thousands of dollar for a donor car, to which you'll have to add over $42,000 for the massively wide LB-Works kit.
The Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary was built in 1988 as a celebration of Automobili Lamborghini SpA's founding in 1963. With a total of 667 units, it is by far the most produced edition of the Countach. Because of the modified design created by Horacio Pagani, it is considered the least brutal of them all, but that's personal taste, I guess.
If you are looking for a running and driving, good-condition Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary, expect to pay between $250,000 and $400,000, depending on miles and condition. Do note that some out there demand as much as $750,000, too, so this isn't a cheap car. You'll need to cut it up to fit this LB-works kit.
Because the fender flares on the Countach 25th Anniversary are in fact glued into place, you'll need an angle grinder to cut the fenders so you can fit the four new, massively wide wheel arch extensions from the LB-Works kit, naturally, there is also a deep front lip, even deeper side skirts, a massive rear diffuser, and a monstrous rear wing with struts that go underneath the rear body of the Countach.
As an option there is an air intake to be fitted on top of the engine cover, do note this one will probably only fit on the Countach version with a carburetor setup, as the fuel-injected version comes with a totally different engine cover design.
Straight from the factory, the Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary comes with 15-inch wheels, this LB-Works edition seems to be rolling on larger 17-inch wheels, something several Japanese owners have already done on their more-or-less standard Countach anyway, and you have to admit, these wheels look really nice.
So I leave it up to you to decide if you love or hate this latest creation from Liberty Walk, on their website they list the kit as an 'on demand' unit, taking about 8 weeks to produce once you've ordered it, and at the time of writing I have only seen the original Countach LB-Works from Liberty Walk, it seems they haven't found a customer yet to modify their own Countach into this wide body monster.
When I learned about VIP Scale Models doing a 1/18 scale version, in the exact presentation livery from the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon, I ordered one, I had never before seen a model from them, and it wasn't exactly cheap, but when the model arrived, it looked good, but to be honest, not €399 good, there are things that could be improved for a 'higher-end' sealed model in this price range.
Several of the grilles in the air intakes are sealed, just like a cheap Bburago model, and if you look really close at the interior, the finish isn't all that great, but the presentation plinth and the entire box are high end, and this model is limited to just 99 units in total, so that might explain some of the elevated price.
By now I've found out there will be another 1/18 scale model of this specific car being released by TrueScale in early 2025, at about half the price, so I'm looking forward to comparing these two side by side when that one arrives.
