I have been playing with the idea of building a Diablo SV Roadster for a very long time now, many years ago I actually bought a blue AUTOart Diablo SV and a red Diablo VT Roadster, both without boxes, for just €80 for both of them, with the idea of creating the 1998 prototype Lamborghini unveiled of the Diablo SV Roadster at the Geneva Motor Show that year.

Things turned out differently, and I found myself in the position to have to sell some models, as I owned boxed versions of these two, I sold my 'project' models together with some others, like the red Murciélago SV, which I regretted ever since ... but the idea of a Diablo SV Roadster remained in the back of my head ever since.

Not too long ago I found yellow Diablo SV bumpers on the AUTOart spares website, so I got a second, yellow Diablo VT Roadster from eBay to try and recreate the second Diablo SV Roadster made, chassis ZA9RE31A0WLA12960, which was yellow, so I wouldn't have to repaint anything.

Sadly, by the time the Roadster arrived, the bumpers were already sold, so I'm now stuck with two yellow Diablo SV Coupe models, and my plans for a Diablo SV Roadster in the collection were shelved ... again ... bummer.

In late July 2024 I was looking around eBay, which I happen to do at least once a day, you never know, and guess what, a seller located in France listed two very special 1/18 scale Lamborghini models ... a Viola 30th Diablo SE30 Roadster, complete with blue interior, and an orange Diablo SV Roadster with the two-tone black and grey interior ... just like the SV Roadster prototype!

Now I don't think there ever was a Diablo SE30 Roadster (not from the factory at least), but that Diablo SV Roadster immediately had my interest, and the seller was open to offers, so I made an offer, which was accepted within hours, I couldn't be more happy.

It turns out this was an AUTOart Diablo VT Roadster model that was converted to an SV Roadster using an APM kit, that is high-end for sure, and looking over the model I can't seem to find any errors or flaws on it, apart from the SV script at the rear that is missing, but I can put that on myself, no problem at all.

If you would look this specific model up on the internet today, it has been slightly modified since 1998, there is a Diablo GT-inspired dual, central exhaust fitted now, replacing the original, quad, oval units, and it seems someone painted the brake calipers to match the Arancio California body, but this 1/18 scale replica is a match to the original 1998 launch specifications, and I love it.
