After Lamborghini unveiled the Sián FKP37 at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, it took them a while to introduce the Sián Roadster in July 2020, but with a limit of just 63 units on the Sián, they decided to make the Roadster even more exclusive by building just 19 units, as an homage to 1963, the year Automobili Lamborghini SpA was founded.
Just as we'd seen with the Veneno Roadster and the Centenario Roadster, this new Sián Roadster didn't come with any roof system, this was an open-top car, and you were meant to drive without a top all the time, and no matter from which angle you look at the Sián Roadster, she looks great, especially in that Blu Uranus high-gloss exterior combined with clear carbon fiber and Oro Electrum details over an extremely nice Bianco and Blu Glauco interior.
So safe to say I was interested in getting a scale model of this new, few-off Lamborghini model, so when MR announced they were making this model on a 1/18 scale, I put a pre-order in, that was March 2021 ... and the waiting game began, it took them forever to start delivering this model, I heard a rumor MR has some serious problems making both the Sián and the Sián Roadster, with many units not making it through their QC ... if that's true, I don't know.
In the end, I got so fed up with MR and not delivering their models that I actually canceled three models I had on order, one of them I ordered back in 2019 already being the Sián FKP37, the other being the Sián Roadster, over time I started seeing the Sián show up at fellow collectors, and by 2023 even the Sián Roadster got shipped out ... but it turned out MR wasn't making their initial production run all at the same time, it seemed they sent out a few units at a time to their dealers who had them on order.
It would take me until February 2023 to finally acquire the Verde Gea version of the MR-made 1/18 scale Lamborghini Sián, remember I initially ordered it in September 2019, and on the certificate it showed the Sián was made in September of 2021, two years after MR announced it, and get this, it would be July 2024 to add the Sián Roadster to the collection, over three years after ordering one, and it gets even better, the certificate states this specific model was 'checked in June 2024, and while there will be 399 made of the presentation version, the number on mine isn't even over half that figure, so does that mean MR still has to make and deliver over 200 units of this Blu Uranus Lamborghini Sián Roadster ... three years after announcing it?
So now I finally own both the Sián and the Sián Roadster from MR in their official launch specification, and I have to admit, they look amazing, really beautiful and extremely detailed, going over some of the close-up photos I made, it becomes clear why MR could have had problems actually making these, the carbon fiber parts on this model are very intricate, and you can find very small 'errors' if you look closely, but they are still both stupendously beautiful, and I couldn't be happier to finally have them on the shelve so I can admire them every day.
One thing that caught my eye on the MR Collection website was the fact they announced six different colors on the Lamborghini Sián FKP37, the coupe version, but only one single color for the Sián Roadster ... is MR reluctant to make the Roadster in more colors due to their production problems? I'm not sure, but it does look odd for MR to release only one shade, they are known for making lots of fantasy shades on one-off models, just as they are doing with the new SC20, only one of those was ever made, but MR has it in lots of colors anyway.
You might ask yourseldf if am I adding more MR models to the collection, knowing they will take years to finally arrive? Yes, I still have a few on order as we speak, and let's face it, other model car builders aren't any better these days, just take a look at the massive 'announcement' list from AUTOart, and the time it takes them to actually produce the model, I guess that's part of the hobby lately.
