I have had this specific model from IDEA on pre-order for about two years now, but sadly my dealer never seemed to have received his orders, subsequently, I didn't get this model for my collection ... until now.

This is the Lamborghini Countach Quattrovalvole, according to IDEA finished in dark metallic purple over a white interior and gold wheels, I already have several Quattrovalvole in my collection already, so why would I add yet another one?

Easy, for me this model looks very close to a well-known car in real life, chassis GLA12997, also known as the "Mimran Countach", a car that was custom-built for Patrick Mimran in 1986, owner of Automobili Lamborghini SpA at that time, finished in a one-off paint called "Bordeaux Speciale" over a Panna leather interior, and get this: the color was never again used on another Lamborghini, he sold the car in 1988 it seems.

Rumor has it that the car was repainted sometime over the following decade in Chianti Perlcolor VW LC3/00P, also used on VW Corrados apparently.

Between 2001 and 2015 this specific Lamborghini Countach Quattrovalvole was owned by a good friend of mine living in Switzerland, and while this IDEA model looks very, very close to the actual car, there are a few differences, like the turn signals under the glass covers on the fenders in front of the pop-up headlights, Swiss Lamborghini Countach had the amber color part on the inside of the car, while in most other countries the white part was on the inside, the latter is visible on this scale model, but it is inaccurate compared to the real GLA12997.

Now I don't think IDEA set out the recreate this specific Countach Quattrovalvole, but when I saw the first photos of this model it immediately reminded me of this car, and I just wanted to add it to the collection.

So my pre-order never materialized, but a few weeks ago I noticed this model being listed on eBay from a seller in France, albeit a little on the expensive side, so I didn't hit the 'Buy Now' button but kept it in my list of items to follow, the seller withdrew the listing, bummer.

A week later I noticed the model being listed again, this time as an auction with an interesting starting price, so I registered a bid, a bit higher than the starting price, but still within an amount I would be comfortable with ... low and behold, I seemed to have been the only bidder and I got this model at the starting bid, which was low for an IDEA model, I don't really understand why, but in the end, I managed to get this model for my collection, so I'm happy with it.

Personally, I would opt for the rear wing if I would spec a new Lamborghini Countach back in the Eighties, but I have to admit the car looks sleek without it, and this is a 1986 model, so without the side streaks seen on the later 1988 1/2 model as a preview of the ones used on the 25th Anniversary edition, and I prefer the Countach like this, truth be told, this is a very nice color combination on this car, I have seen it in real life on several occasions, and it is a beautiful color, especially out in the sun.

So this marks my fourth Lamborghini Countach on a 1/18 scale made by IDEA, the first one being the Colorado Rame LP400S which I absolutely love, that is such a special color, while the others are all very special, important Countach versions, like the black Cannonball Countach with the double wings, long antenna and twelve exhaust pipes and the dark blue Walter Wolf special, and now this Mimran custom ... there is something truly mesmerising about these IDEA-made Lamborghini Countach I really love, so this will probably not be my last model from them.
