We all know the late Ferruccio Lamborghini didn't start his first company as a car builder, instead, the first Lamborghini on wheels were tractors, much in need after World War II in Italy, Lamborghini Trattori became a very successful company that allowed Ferruccio to indulge himself the finer sports cars back in those days, rumor has it a dispute with Enzo Ferrari led to the creation of Automobili Lamborghini SpA.
I already have a nice selection of Lamborghini tractor scale models, but when I learned about an upcoming 1/18 scale model tractor from Schuco, it didn't take long for me to put a pre-order in, it would be a model for the 1556 DT, a tractor that was built between 1981 and 1984, powered by a 6.8-Liter 6 cylinder engine delivering 155 hp, note that this tractor put 12,230 lbs on the scale (about 6000 kg).
My order for this model dates back to January 2021, it finally arrived in March of 2024, it took Schuco over three years to finally build and distribute this model, and it's from their Pro series, this model is limited to just 500 units worldwide, and fortunately I managed to get a pre-order booked at a reasonable price, as by now the price went up quite a bit, but my dealer honored my order and shipped it to me for the original price plus shipping.
Sadly the model arrived damaged, this is a large, resin model, so it's heavy, and the box was completely sealed, so my dealer had nothing to do with it, I did get a partial refund and tried to fix the model as good as possible, which also allowed me to really inspect the model up close.
Honestly... I think this model is seriously overpriced for the quality, sure it's a limited edition model, only 500 worldwide, and there are some amazing details, but it's a 40-year-old tractor, and there are no intricate designs to be found, it is a rather angular style, not too much in terms of a dashboard, and just a simple seat, the problem is that when you look really close, the finish of the cabin on the inside isn't that good, it isn't smooth, the tires have pinholes in them, and the model even comes with glue stains on the matt black undercarriage.
All-in-all I'm still very happy to have this model in my collection, I finally managed to put together a photo I had seen many years ago in the original Ferruccio Lamborghini museum when he stands on the steps of a tractor with a red Miura and a white Countach on either side, I always wanted to get that shot done with a 1/18 scale, more or less period correct tractor, and I finally managed to do just that, so I'm still happy with the model, but I sure wouldn't have paid €200 or more for it, it just isn't worth that kind of money, sorry.
