I managed to completely ignore this special Lamborghini Gallardo Polizia model from AutoArt in 1/18 scale when it came out, naturally afterward these were all sold out and if you still managed to locate one for sale it was priced so high it was ridiculous to be honest.

So I almost gave up completely to ever adding one of these blue police cars to my collection … until I saw a listing from a collector in France who was selling part of his 1/18 collection to get some funds to increase his 1/43 scale collection of Lamborghini models … his loss, my luck as I managed to obtain this rare model for a reasonable 120 Euro in May 2010.

This was actually a brand new AutoArt model, the strap to hold the doors was still intact, as were those pesky little wires AutoArt is putting in their models to keep the engine cover and the front hood closed, a good idea, but these can be a bit difficult to remove in the end, also there are two hooks on an elastic band holding the doors closed too, so you'll have to use a flat tool to pry open the doors a bit and try to get hold of the hook to open the doors … who said collection diecast models was easier than building your own kits ?

Safe to say I was extremely pleased with me finding this model in such a brand new condition, so I polished it (always to that to new models to make them shine even more), took these shots and put it in my display case … next to the more recent Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia … a great pair that never ceases to impress me.

But one thing bugged me after putting them side by side … the LP560-4 Polizia was finished in a different shade of blue, and to be honest, this shade looked more like the real thing, I had the luck of seeing this one in real life during an event featuring police cars from all over Europe … so this original Gallardo Polizia from AutoArt was wrong ?

Turned out it was, and AutoArt actually executed a second production run of this model, finished in the correct shade of blue for the Italian State Police … which makes this specific model even more collectible in my eyes.

Here I'm looking at a first edition 1/18 AutoArt model Lamborghini Gallardo Polizia, one that never will be built again as it doesn't show the correct blue shade for the police car … turning it into an instant collector's item right on the spot, making the 120 Euro I paid for it even better … I just love it now … even more so as it will be parked next to a correct blue Polizia version I will buy later on to make the collection complete.
