When I heard the news that AutoArt was planning to built a nice selection of Lamborghini models in the near future I was naturally very pleased.

I've bought their amazing looking 1/18 model of the Reventon the minute it appeared on eBay ... and much to my surprise this orange metallic Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera was also offered at that time, so I didn't hesitate and bought both of them (I would worry about the funds later on).

However things didn't turn out as expected, note that this was May 2009, a few days later I received a mail from the seller stating that he didn't have the Gallardo yet, but it would be available in June (note that I actually paid the full amount already) ... to cut a long story short I received the car mid August.

So about this model now, AutoArt has been building the regular Gallardo 5.0 model from the start, and they are among the best finished 1/18 models available, as is this Superleggera edition, I also own a yellow and a gray 1/18 model from Maisto, but this AutoArt is in a totally different league altogether, naturally also in pricing.

I did find some details that could have been improved, if you open the very nicely done engine cover with the, in real life, optional Carbon Fiber rear wing, I wasn't impressed with the engine.

It looks to me that they didn't change a thing compared to the Gallardo they've been building for years, don't get me wrong, it looks nice, but compared to the level of details found on their Espada and Reventon it isn't at the same level

Secondly the interior, it is nicely done, the seats are extremely nice, but again the dashboard and steering wheel look like they've come from the standard Gallardo 'as is' while the door panels aren't looking like Carbon Fiber, which they are on the real car.

I would have liked it if AutoArt would have used the 'strap' system to pull the door shut normally found on the Superleggera, instead they used the optional 'regular' system, probably to avoid extra development costs for this model.

All in all this new AutoArt is naturally a real asset to any collection, and I certainly have no regrets buying this one ... as a matter of fact I couldn't wait until they also offered it in white, by the way, at the moment you can have it in either this bright orange metallic shade, the dark gray shade, stunning white and intimidating black.
