For an in-depth dive into the specifics of the Lamborghini LM002, you can have a look at my review of the Rosso Siviglia release from AUTOart on this 1/18 scale model of the Rambo Lambo. Still, some of the highlights are the fact that this model is the early version of the LM002, built between 1986 and 1989, using the carburetted V12 from the Lamborghini Quattrovalvole, still pumping out 455 hp, which offered an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 Mph) in just 7.8 seconds.
To put those figures in perspective, a 1986 VW Golf GTI with the 8-Valve cylinder head came with 107 hp and reached 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds; if you opted for the 16-Valve engine, those numbers changed to 137 hp and 7.9 seconds … the massive 2,700kg heavy Lamborghini LM002 was still quicker; imagine that on the open road.
So onto this new AUTOart release of a classic Lamborghini model from the late Eighties, the LM002, the first factory-built four-door V12 Bull. Final assembly was done in Sant’Agata, but the aluminum and fiberglass body came from Spain, made by the Irizar coachbuilding factory, which mainly built buses; think about that one for a second.
But the magnificent 5.2 liter V12 engine was fitted to the tubular chassis at the factory in Sant’Agata, the LM002 became a true Lamborghini right at the home of the Raging Bull, no question about that, and she was something special back in the Eighties, capable of insane speeds, both on the road, and off-road, a Range Rover didn’t even come close to what an LM002 could do off-road.
So how does this Bianco Polo Park release from AUTOart look? Is it a better option than the Rosso Siviglia one? That is a question only you as a collector can answer, it all depends on what your preferences are, perhaps you already have too many red Lamborghini in your collection, and it’s time to get a white LM002, which happens to be fully opening, all four doors open, and the engine cover opens … and no, the rear hatch doesn’t fold down, it is what it is.
I could state that this is just a white version of the red Lamborghini LM002 AUTOart released, but there is one small difference: take a look at the bars around the rear seating section. These are color-coded on the red one, but on this white version they are painted black. I have no idea why, but it distinguishes the two colors even further. From what I can see, the rest is identical between the two, down to the all-black interior.
Just imagine AUTOart would have opted for a white interior inside this white Lamborghini LM002; that would look absolutely stunning if you ask me, and once again I have to admit that with the black interior it does match up nicely with the AUTOart Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary … apart from the color.
I noticed this the moment I opened the rather large box this Lamborghini LM002 came in; the white seemed off to me. It isn’t a bright, vibrant white, but more a subdued shade- a slightly darker hue of white, especially when compared to the white of the Countach 25th Anniversary, which is a bright white overall.
I haven’t been able to compare this white Lamborghini LM002 from AUTOart against a Bianco Polo Park paint sample, but to be honest, I highly doubt the shade is a perfect match to Polo Park. I could be wrong, and on the shelf this model does look amazing, but I would have preferred a more vibrant white over a white interior.
