KK-Scale released the Lamborghini Espada as a 1970 model, making it the Series II model, also referred to as the Espada GTE, introduced by Lamborghini in November of 1969 and kept in production for just three years, in November of 1972, the Series III was unveiled, in total about 575 units of the Series II were built in Sant'Agata.
But this silver metallic, or Argento, version of the KK-Scale 1/18 Lamborghini Espada S2 comes with a little special detail, for the Espada GTE, or Series II, several updates were made by the factory, one of them being the wood inlay dashboard in a more traditional layout (the original Espada has a rather special looking hexagon dashboard pod), but another update was a switch to a five-bolt wheel hub.
However, this silver 1970 Lamborghini Espada from KK-Scale rolls on a different wheel design with a central knock-off lock, similar to the wheels used on the legendary Lamborghini Miura from that same era, so did KK-Scale make a mistake here?
No, they didn't. The first units of the Lamborghini Espada Series II actually left the factory with these Miura-style wheels, complete with this three-wing knock-off center lock, and that is exactly the reason why I just couldn't resist adding this specific model to my collection, even if I already own the AUTOart version of this exact same Lamborghini.
Now, don't get me wrong, this is a KK-Scale sealed model at a price point that makes the AUTOart all-opening model seem even more exuberantly expensive than they already are, and you have to set your expectations accordingly, the AUTOart version is so much nicer, finer detailed, and offers opening doors, a visible, nicely detailed engine, and an opening rear hatch, none of that is present on the KK-Scale model, but the latter is also a lot less expensive to add, and let's face it, how many models do you have on display with doors and engine cover open?
So the KK-Scale Lamborghini Espada Series II is a very nice option for you to add to your collection while not spending €400 or more for the classic diecast AUTOart version, but I do wonder why KK-Scale decided to release this model in four shades that are very similar to the colors AUTOart released on the Espada many years ago.
