Four new 1/18 scale models joined my collection recently, the different colors KK-Scale released on the 1970 Lamborghini Espada Series 2, this blue over tan version is one of them, and I have to admit I really like this color, I have set it next to my AUTOart release, and the KK-Scale hue of blue just looks nicer, to me.

But there is no question about the fact the AUTOart release is a much nicer scale model of the Lamborghini Espada, and on this blue release from KK-Scale they went with the Espada Series 2 wheels too, no more knock-off center-lock wheels as seen on the silver version, but the more recent five-bolt pattern, which was added by Lamborghini early in the production of the Espada Series 2, similar to the Jarama S at that time.

Another modification between the Espada Series 1 and Series 2 was an updated interior, specifically the dashboard, and with the tan interior inside this blue version, we get a better look at it, complete with wood grain touches, the silver car came with a black interior, which makes seeing the details more difficult.

Honestly, you really shouldn't compare this new KK-Scale Lamborghini Espada with the older AUTOart release, for one, the latter is an all-opening model, the doors, engine cover, and rear hatch can be opened on the AUTOart version, and you can admire that impressive 4-liter V12 engine that has been reproduced on a 1/18 scale by AUTOart to near perfection.

The KK-Scale Lamborghini Espada is a sealed model, nothing opens, but the front wheels do steer, so that's something when you display this model on your shelf, and then we have to discuss the price, naturally, the AUTOart was released many years ago, and I remember paying €90 for the silver one when new, I managed to find the blue one for just €62 in 2011 when nobody was interested in them, and dealers offered them at a massive discount.

But those times have changed considerably, and if you want to add any of the four colors AUTOart released (which happen to be similar to the colors KK-Scale now introduced, strangely enough), you will be looking at about €400 each (at the time of writing) ... in comes the new KK-Scale release at €64 if you wait for a nice discount from your dealer, but the MSRP is €79.

So I added all four shades from KK-Scale to the collection, and even added a nice 1/18 scale figurine of Ferruccio Lamborghini that fits perfectly with these models, and I'm still nowhere near what I had to spend just on the Rosso Granada version from AUTOart in 2023.

The question remains: should you add this KK-Scale 1/18 model of the Lamborghini Espada to your collection? For the price these are going for today, I would say yes, if you are looking for the Italian Rolls Royce from Lamborghini, a V12 powered four-seater GT from the Seventies, this Espada is a beauty ... just set your expectations to the price-point you are looking at, if you want nicer details and opening doors and hood, you'll have to dig a lot deeper into your bank account I'm afraid.
