We all know the Italian State Police has been driving Lamborghini for many years now, they started out with a Gallardo Polizia, added a second one and evolved onto the new Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia, naturally with the Lamborghini Huracan taking over the reign of the Gallardo it would be obvious the Polizia Di Stato would get one of the new V10 models too ... that happened in May 2014, Automobili Lamborghini SpA donated one of their Huracan LP610-4 to the State Police.
Bburago was quick to release their 1/18 scale model on the Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 Polizia, but they made a few serious errors, the wheels are incorrect, the engine cover is wrong and none of those special Poice items that should be in the interior were present ... but in the end, it was a €35 model, so I wasn't too disturbed about it.
This Huracan Polizia was police car nr 376 with license plate H8862 and it seemed Lamborghini used one of their pre-production models to donate, it was obvious this car was white originally, came with the optional Mimas wheels over red brake calipers while the interior was a BiColore Sportivo Alcantara with red stitching, the sides of the seats were finished in black leather while the center parts and part of the door panels were black Alcantara ... that was the exact configuration Lamborghini used to 'test run' the new assembly line in Sant'Agata and how the first dealer demonstrator cars were delivered.
When MR released their 1/18 scale model on the Huracan Polizia I noticed something strange ... the livery wasn't the same as on the Bburago ... what was going on? A quick online search revealed the fact that about a year after the initial press release on the Huracan Polizia (on which the Bburago one was based), the livery was radically changed ... especially the Polizia script on the side was completely different ... and MR based their model on the new livery.
Fast forward to mid-2017 ... finally, AUTOart releases their version of the Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 Polizia, all opening, composite as it is naturally based on the standard Huracan LP610-4 AUTOart has already released earlier ... but this AUTOart Huracan Polizia looks really amazing, even up close this model is just about the best you'll be able to find with opening doors and hoods.
As we would expect the very special shade of Polizia blue is perfectly replicated by AUTOart on this Huracan, it is a very difficult shade to mix right, and it's even hard to photograph in fact, and with the white details, Polizia script and blue lights on the roof complete with antenna the Huracan Polizia is just a really nice, must have scale model for your collection.
Take a closer look at the front and rear grilles in the bumper ... you'll find small LED flashlights in there, just like on the real car ... unfortunately AUTOart missed one of these LED, on the real car you'll find additional blue LED flashlights under the small windows behind the driver and passenger ... somehow these didn't make it into this scaled down model.
One other detail that didn't make it onto the AUTOart Huracan Polizia is a white circle on the roof, behind the ligths, other than that the exterior of this 1/18 scale car looks absolutely perfect, the stance is right, the headlights and taillights are really nicely replicated, and if you look through the grille under the taillights you'll be able to see the mufflers ... very nice, naturally the four, chrome exhaust tips are perfect too.
Inside the real Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 Polizia there are a lot of additional police items, inside the front luggage space there is a cold box used for organ transport, Bburago didn't bother with this, but inside the AUTOart there is a very nice, white box with the red cross on it.
Just next to the interior rear view mirror there is a camera mounted to catch speeders and keep a record of traffic while driving, a Motorola system is also installed together with the controls for the additional lights around and on top of the Huracan Polizia ... all present inside this AUTOart model, they even put the small controls in front of the passenger inside the dashboard ... some very nice attention to details.
Attached to the roof there is a large LCD display, while on the right side of the central console AUTOart also put a display inside this model ... I haven't seen this second display on the real car yet, but it might have been a recent addition ... all in all I really like the details AUTOart put into the cockpit of their 1/18 scale Lamborghini Huracan Polizia.
The beautiful V10 engine found inside the Lamborghini Huracan has once again been very nicely reproducced in 1/18 scale by AUTOart, but here they did make one mistake ... as the Huracan Polizia comes with the standard, louvred engine cover, the engine surround is different from the one used with the optional, glass engine cover ... AUTOart used the one from their original Huracan model, that come with the glass engine cover ... so on this Polizia version the engine surround is in fact wrong ... a small detail not many people might know, but I do.
I really like this AUTOart Lamborghini Huracan Polizia, I already own the Gallardo and Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia versions from AUTOart, so this new Huracan was a must have for my collection (I even own the very first AUTOart Gallardo Polizia version that was finished in the wrong shade of blue). And when I opened the box on this new Huracan Polizia I was impresed by the overall look and feel ... somehow AUTOart managed to get this composite Huracan look even better than the orange Huracan I also own ... I really think we should forget about these models being composite instead of diecast, with this Huracan Polizia it has become obvious AUTOart is perfecting this method ... I for one really don't care about what material they make these models from ... as long as they look like the real car and have a perfect shelve presence.
So is this 1/18 scale AUTOart Lamborghini Huracan Polizia a perfect replica? Not really, I already mentioned the LED behind the side windows and the engine surround as being wrong ... but there is one more detail not many know about ... the real Lamborghini Huracan Polizia was based on a white V10 ... I personally think the blue parts are a wrap, so on the real car the inside of the front hood and the door sills are white ... on this AUTOart model, these are blue like the rest of the car.
But other than that this is indeed a very, very good reproduction of the real nr 376 Italian State Police car ... note that the Polizia de Stato now has two Huracan cars, nr 376 with license plate H8862 and nr 377 with license plate M2658.
