Together with the Huracan LP620-2 Super Trofeo race car I won in an auction I actually won another Looksmart model too ... the bright green presentation version of the Huracan GT3 racer that was unveiled in January 2015 at the factory in Sant'Agata ... again wearing the special #63 on the sides.
Both the GT3 and the Super Trofeo versions of the Lamborghini Huracan have been developed by Lamborghini's own Squadra Corse department in collaboration with Dallara Engineering ... they are based on the Huracan street car but show some seriously modified bodywork for improved aerodynamic flow, not only keeping the mechanical parts and the V10 engine cool, but also drawing air into the cockpit with the OMP carbon fiber seat and special fire extinguishing system.
The Huracan GT3 even comes with a panel in the roof to access the driver in case of an accident ... and at first sight, you might think Looksmart made an error here ... this scale model doesn't show this panel while their latest releases do come with a square above the driver seat. But take a closer look at the official press photos of the green Huracan GT3 ... it doesn't have this panel either!
When comparing the Looksmart Huracan Super Trofeo and this GT3 I did notice the latter is a lot better detailed, the stripe over the roofline is correct, the decals and sponsors look spot on, Looksmart even added the Grasser Racing decal on the side below the doors ... which wasn't there o the press photos yet ... only when the car was unveiled by Stephan Winkelmann in Sant'Agata did that decal got mounted as the Grasser Racing Team bought two Huracan GT3 to compete in the 2015 Blancpain Endurance series.
The gold painted Brembo brake calipers look amazing on the grooved disk brakes, the carbon fiber is really nicely scaled down and that massive 'hanging' rear wing with the Pertamina sponsor is spot on ... Looksmart even included the red cloth straps at the front and rear, just like on the real car.
On the real Huracan GT3 the front windshield is fitted with quick release fasteners ... Looksmart put these on their 1/18 scale model too, just like on most body parts ... as they can all be quickly removed on the race car.
The Huracan GT3 has much wider front fenders, with air vents behind the wheel, in front of the door ... on the Looksmart model these are just a little too big ... on the real car these are thin fins while Looksmart made them too thick ... also note they are see-through in real life, but that was probably too difficult to replicate in 1/18 scale so Looksmart painted that section black.
On the Huracan Super Trofeo from Looksmart I found one serious flaw at the rear ... you couldn't see anything from the engine ... on this Huracan GT3 model Looksmart made an effort, there are some details to be seen at the rear, but still not as much as I would like for a model that normally sells for €269.
I just love the brutal looks of the Huracan GT3, especially in this bright green shade, so when I was able to get hold of one of these Looksmart 1/18 sealed models for the right price I didn't hesitate ... is it worth €269? I would probably have to say no, but keeping in mind this is the only 1/18 scale model of this specific car I would have to say yes ... it is worth it ... just because there is no other choice.
